| 在中国历史早期阶段，南方和北方都尚武好战且创造了高度的文明，但由于北方相对的地理优势，先于南方在秦汉时期成为政治经济文化中心。北方地区在中国历史上基本上保持了政治中心的地位，加之与北方游牧民族相邻，因而也成为各派力量角逐的主战场，这又导致北方一方面尚武精神得以延续，另一方面经济文化中心的地位至唐宋逐步让位于南方，形成了“南文北武”文化差异格局，而长期以来沉淀于南方人和北方人心灵深处的人类本能和经验遗存又进一步巩固了“南文北武”文化差异格局。 |

| During the early period of mankind in China both the Southerner and the Northerner advocated fighting and created highly civilized society, but in Qin dynasty the North grew into the political, economic, and cultural center prior to the South owing to its geographical advantage. However, the North gradually became a battlefield for different political groups, for it occupied the position of political center and was next to the northern nomadic people in Chinese history, which, on the one hand, led to the lasting spirit of advocating fighting in the North; on the other hand, it brought about the cultural difference between the South and the North since the North's position as economic and cultural center made way for the South in Tang and Song dynasty. This pattern of cultural difference that the South advocated cultural development and the North advocated fighting was strengthened by human instinct and experience which were deposited in the deep heart of the Southerner and the Northerner for a long time. |
