      晚清女性贞节礼俗的社会教化功能得到不断加强,女性节烈楷模产生广泛的示范效应,推动社会节烈风尚的形成;贞节堂在晚清的出现,是贞节观念极端化的又一物化象征。但是,作为一种新的制度机构,贞节堂的社会功能正逐步由对节妇贞女的恤济向公共慈善事业的近代化嬗变。鸦片战争以来思想界出现的开明人士猛烈抨击传统贞节观的现象也表明,清代妇女贞节观在走向极致的同时,也面临着行将崩溃的前景,它预示着中国妇女在近代社会的观念变迁中,将逐步地走出传统礼教的束缚,改变自己的命运。
英文摘要:
      Social education functions of women's chastity etiquette and custom had been steadily strengthened in the late Qing dynasty. Women dying for chastity exhibited wide demonstration effect that promoted the fashion of dying for the protection of chastity in society. Chastity Hall appearing in the late Qing dynasty is another materialized symbol of the extreme chastity concept. However, as a new system of institutions, the social function of chastity Hall was gradually evolving from economic relief for chastity women to modern public charity. Meanwhile, the strong criticism of the traditional chastity views by the intellectual liberals since the Opium War suggests while the chastity concept in Qing Dynasty developed into its extreme, it was also on the verge of collapsing, which means Chinese women in the process of concept change in modern society would gradually break away from the restraints of traditional etiquette and change their fate.
